Halloween is probably my favorite holiday, if you don’t count Thanksgiving that is. I love a holiday where you don’t have to buy gifts or go all out, just the chance to bring delicious food and hangout is really all I could ask for. But that’s getting me off topic. (We can save that thought and the awful past of the holiday for further down the road.)
Halloween is the time to really put out all the stops, and make your home fun for parties or, Trick or Treaters. Plus you can really go tons of ways with it, either just fun goofy decorations that kids would love or all out horror, hoping that your displays will really send the kids running. Even just a bunch of pumpkins and gourds placed around can add a nice aesthetic with fall flowers, the beautiful colors of fall all on full display.
This year, now that I’ve moved and am in a neighborhood that I’m sure will be full of Trick or Treaters ( that is if the dreaded Covid is not high spreading) , I want to do something fun that people will enjoy when they stop by for candy. So I’ve decided on drawing inspiration from the movie Beetlejuice.
It’s one of my favorite Tim Burton movies, and it really brings me back to my childhood. I have so much plans and thankfully a month to slowly get to each one of them. I have already started as you can see from my pictures at the top. I needed to plant some fall plants and figured I might as well go ahead and add the decorations I wanted for those so I wouldn’t have to come back and disturb the plants while doing so. So yes, some of my decorations are a little early this year, but oh well lol.
For my fall Mums pot, I painted the sandworm from Beetlejuice, its body poking up from the sand all around the pot. For my Aster pot, I spray painted the pot black. The shrimp hand was made from molding dough that I put around a fake skeleton hand to help form it. I painted it and then sprayed a clear varnish to help the paint from coming off on both the pot and hand.
I can’t wait to share with all of you the different decorations I end up coming up with or buying to help complete the look.
Let me know how you like to spend your Halloween, or what kind of decorations you plan to do this year. Comment Below 🙂
